A Welcome Return to the Dark Ages

Ladies and Gentlemen: welcome back the age of the horror film. Not since the bloodcurdling days when Spielberg’s horror incited a phobia amongst every beachgoer and Hitchcock ceased thousands of showers; have we been infatuated with experiencing heart-stopping terror. Recently the genre has experienced a lull with a string of B-grade movies failing to impress audiences, but it seems our spines are, once again, ice cold with several chilling pieces now currently circulating our nervous system.
This years film ‘Hostel’ is, quite simply, one long horrific sexual encounter laced with a terrifying plot. If the R18 rating doesn’t give it away, the droves of young males en-route to the video store may hint at the target audience.
The film revolves around three young men scouring the European continent in search of satisfaction for their rampant sexual desires. Their journey leads them to the Hostel, a miraculous haven where scorching hot women line the corridors, speaking only one language ‘flirt.’ Of course the plot thickens when friends’ lives and limbs suddenly go missing while a rich league of amateur surgeons pay top dollar for the newest batch of imported guinea pigs.
Based on the graphic violence, sex scenes and thrilling plot, I gave it 4/5 stars. One for the boys.
I will be reviewing for more current films. This is just to test the waters in movie review.
If you like the style then let me know, there’s plenty more where that came from.
Ciao
