Which lightsaber would you choose?

October 26th 2006 01:44
Lightsaber cabinet

Taken from the fictional world of the books, films, games, toys, blogs, etc of "Star Wars" (although some have noted it as their religion too), the origin of the lightsaber here takes place. Primarily it's a combat tool and is created from the resources of special types of crystals, yet only few are allowed to wield them. But! If you could have any light-sabre you wanted, along with your preference of colour, which would you choose? I've often fantasised about having a lightsaber as a kid and still do now a bit - whirling it around the air, making that 'sssshh' sound. I guess it's kinda like using a coathanger to pretend you're playing guitar.

Anyway, given that some colours assume you to be on one side of the force - of good and evil - would that deter you? Typically the red colour is for the Sith and seen used by Darth Maul and Darth Vader, whereas the blue is prominenetly used by the Jedi, or good guys like Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi. There's a really great link to the different types of lightsabers used in the movies here.

Also of note, would you prefer the single sabered or dual sabred light-sabre. I'm guessing it requires more skill to use the double-sided blade that we see Darth Maul using, but then again, it does look pretty awesome.

However, throughout the episodes we do see other vaiations such as yellow, green and purple so we're not exclusively choosing from red or blue. But any shade or hue is OK as long as you pick it.

I think I'd pick either an obsidian black or a cigarette flare orange while being a single-ended saber.

So, would you choose a single sided lightsaber or double?
And finally, what would your particular colour be?

Single and blue -- Blue cos it's a nice colour and single because I think I would hurt myself with a double one

I answered this question when I played that Star Wars video game. You gotta double it up, and get freaky-style evil.

I quite like the purple one and with the option of it being dual!

I would have a blue, single bladed saber.....the classic. You didnt mention Lightwhips another, more obscure variation used primarily by ancient sith but more 'recently' by Kit Fisto in the book 'The Cestus Deception'. Wow, I know too much about Star Wars

I'd like a dual with red on one side and blue on the other. I could then twirl it around, make police siren sounds, and intimidate my opponent by saying "Here comes the law, baby." It also makes a nice dichotomy of good and evil existing as one which, I guess, is what the Force is basically about.

Mine would definitely be a single lightsaber, I'd accidentally chop my own head off with a dual one (though there's a good chance I'd still chop off one of my limbs with a single one). And I think I'd like mine to be purple.....just cos it's pretty. Or even yellow so I could open a can of "whoop ass" Yoda style on my opponent!

I really like your catchcry of "here comes the law baby" Ragin Cajun. Nicely threatening.

KylieW and Ragin Cajun...you're killing me!! Death by Laughter. What a way to go.

Hi Justin...

Ooh...favourite topic...I told JoshZ that I would like to be a cerulean blue Twi'lek Jedi (like Aayla Secura) so my lightsaber would be a single shaft of vibrant fuschia energy BUT if need be, it's a dual sided weapon - the other side, a pulsing shaft of classic blue...
A balance of feminine and masculine...like The Force...

Umm...am I taking this far too seriously?

I, like DuskDevi, would choose a lovely shade of fuschia. I would, however, ensure I had a couple of diamantes embedded in the hilt. Not only would I be the most fashionable chick on the Force (with an added Breast Cancer awareness symbolism) but my diamantes would have the added benefit of shooting death rays. It would work to my benefit as the Stormtroopers would stop in their tracks - "Baby, looking good" would be ringing through the Death Star corridors. Then the sound of my fuchsia, diamante studded death ray would smother all sounds, and the bodies of hundreds of curiously blood-free Stormtroopers would litter the ground before me.

This is a single saber lightsaber - I had to sacrifice the double saber for the diamante hilt.

KarenC...I LOVE your lightsaber!
Teach me you must...to construct and accessorize...

I'm not sure why but I'm singing 'lightsaber' to the tune of "Night Fever" (Bee Gees)...can you hear it??

DuskDevi, I'm getting down to the BeeGees - I wasn't sure why but it's now clear to me.

I would like a dual saber with one side sea foam green and the other a deep wine, like that Pinot Noir I had last week that was sooo good. Wait, that might not be so smart. I could distract myself with thoughts of relaxing dinner parties while attempting to defeat the evil overlords. Maybe I should think this out some more.

I am going to go all high-tech on yo' all - I want a transparent lightsaber - double edged of course!!

If you can't see my glow, than ther's no chance for my foe!!

Anyway, as long as I get to wear my fully sick, stylin' ADIDAS hoody (with extra, built in bling), with matching aviator tracky daks, I reckon my appearance alone would 'paddle all yo' asses!!'

Really must stop watching ALI 'AIGHT" G!!

I think it's time for a nanna nap ....

Jon: I'm of the same opinion, double-edged look quite tricky and harder to handle.

Cibby: Which game? Knights of the Old Republic or the Lego game?

Charles: Nice!

Gareth: Yeah, didn't know about that one - sounds cool. Being part of the classic series( like Jon) would foster feelings of being part of a group of legendary fighters and would be cool for the opposite of the individual reasons.

Ragin Cajun: Hah! Awesome - I like your thinking. Kinda like a Judge Dread type of enforcer of the force, whirling around, feared by everyone.

KylieW: That's two for the purple series. Yoda somehow does open cans of "whoop ass" and it's definitely not to do with his size. Might just be that yellow lightsaber afterall.

DuskDevi:You're absolutely not taking this too far! That fuschia would be a great colour by itself, and when coupled with the blue could unionise gender equality in the force. Or, something.

KarenC: Fair enough, single lightsaber with the the diamante hilt that shoots death rays. That's one powerful weapon.

Adele: True, artistic pleasure may sacrifice the skills you have using it; but would it not also distract the enemies? A battle of the wills! Presuming of course, that they like that colour, or that it reminds them of a similar mesmerising pinot noir..

StephenP: Hah, awesome! Transparent might be a problem as when do you know it's on or off? Maybe the force could tell you I guess. Even better is that you've accessrised your accompnaying costume too. Very swank.

Hey Justin,

The force of my inbuilt, custom made, sub-woofer and tweeter combo in my transparent 'saber, will allow me to know when my weapon IS ON!

Unfortunately, the 'saber only plays country and western at the moment, but I am waiting for the new improved Thumper C-Thru 2 to hit the stands before Christamas!

Until then, my enemies will either die form my transparent blades or from listening to Achey Breaky Heart booming out of my 'Saber grip!!

Cheers,

StephenP

StephenP: Hah, alllll-righty then! But playing "Achy Breaky Heart" is just cruel.

Bryn: Not a bad choice at all. In a few of the older the Star Wars games featuring the transporter (Han Solo), he's actually one of the easiest and best characters to choose for his pistol.

Stan: Then you'd be opting for the black handled, red light sabre. Quite menacing in it's own right.

Interesting. Constructing one's lightsaber using components found in "Knights of the Old Republic II:The Sith Lords", my personal favourite is a single bladed weapon with an Ultimate Diatum energy cell, expert deflection emitter and a Pontite Lens. Focussing crystals used are a unique personal crystal found in a cave on Dantooine, and an Upari focussing crystal. The colour crystal used is a beautiful shade of Viridian (lime green).

Wow this is an interesting post, and look at all the comments!

I would still go for the simple yet powerful single end blue light saber, since blue is my favorite. ^_^

(It's cooler because my favorite jedi is using it. ^_^ )

I'm not sure about the exact colours (as long as you have'em, they're fine to me), but I would definitely go with a four-saber technique: one in each hand and two held by the Force around me.

And to the last person that commented, "Uhh.. what?"

Hi Id have a single blade saber but with multipyl crystels so i can eithe extend the length up to 2.5 meters or shrink it down to 1/2 a meter but i would have to go a Blue/green colour with a silver coriscating effect ; )

I would definitely have to go with a chrome handle on mine. With a bit of crimson. The blade would be a very dark purple. Mace Windu is the man. Cant believe he got thrown out a window. He should've survived that one.
